Ursula Holden Gill is a Storyteller and Independent Tutor of Singing, Speech and Drama who is based in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. She frequently travels internationally and throughout the UK, using music, movement and real-life observation to inform her own original and traditionally inspired work, to direct other artists and to connect people of all ages with their creativity. Responding to commissions and both long- and short-term residences within the community, education, entertainment and health sectors alike, over the last decade Ursula has relished establishing firm links with institutions such as Action for Children, Opera North, Compassion in World Farming, Settle Stories, Social Services, The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, The National Youth Theatre and The Shakespeare Schools Festival. She is particularly passionate about her work with children and young people, in animal welfare and in the therapeutic value of Storytelling.
In 2012 Ursula was voted Best Newcomer at The British Awards for Storytelling Excellence.
Ursula became a full time Storyteller and Independent Tutor of Singing, Speech and Drama in 2009 having been made a committee member of the Hebden Bridge based Shaggy Dog Storytellers in 2007. Prior to this she worked as an Actress in Film, Television, Theatre and on Radio. Also as a Guest Lecturer and Workshop Facilitator specialising in Characterisation, Shakespeare, Storytelling and Vocal Technique.
Joining forces with one of the most long standing and highly regarded storytelling clubs in the UK finally presented Ursula with a platform to combine her expertise in performance with her belief in the educational value and the healing power of stories. Today, she creates, curates and shares genuinely life affirming stories that encourage her audiences to think as much as be entertained and nurtures confidence, craftsmanship and empathy in her students. Needless to say, Ursula has never looked back…
Ursula is an enchanting, highly engaging storyteller. She takes her audience on an absorbing journey of laughter, wonder and surprise. A consummate professional; one who responds to any situation with humour and character. A treat and highly recommended.
